Hal tersebut merupakan konsekuensi dari fisika yang berkenaan dengan transistor bipolar, yaitu transistor yang dikuasai perangkat; yang mana hal tersebut sangat berlawanan dengan efek tegangan medan transistor yang dikendalikan perangkat. Sesuai dengan tiga mode operasi yang tercantum di atas, ada tiga buah sirkuit dasar  yang memperkuat transistor hal ini ditunjukkan pada Gambar diatas. Pada frekuensi sinyal impedansi dari tegangan kolektor pasokan diabaikan dan dengan demikian kita dapat mengatakan untuk rangkaian (a) input diterapkan antara emitor dan basis, output yang  efektif yang dihasilkan antara kolektor dan basis. Dengan demikian dasar koneksi umum untuk sirkuit input dan output yang merupakan amplifier ini dikenal sebagai jenis common – base.
